Dear Reader,When I was eighteen, I lived in a remote fishing village in the north of Iceland for a year. While I was there, I was inspired by the landscape and I heard the story of Agnes Magnusdottir, the last person to be executed in Iceland. It was a story that haunted me long after I returned home and I knew that I had to write about it. BURIAL RITES is what I imagine to be Agnes's story.
