Carleen Brice

Dear Librarian,

I'm honored to announce I received the 2009 First Novelist Award from the Black Caucus of the American Library Association for ORANGE MINT AND HONEY!

My 2nd novel, CHILDREN OF THE WATERS, will be out in July. It's a story about two long-lost half-sisters, one white and one black, who find each other... possibly with the help of their grandmother's ghost.

Lori Tharps, author of Kinky Gazpacho, called CHILDREN OF THE WATERS "a thoroughly enjoyable novel that gets at the heart of the human experience." And Jacquelyn Mitchard author, The Deep End of the Ocean, said, "I was exhausted and singing the blues ... five hours later, I'd finished this fresh, free-rein novel about mothers' secrets and children's sorrows and was shouting 'Hurray!'"

From a former library employee (University of Kansas) and current patron, donor and volunteer (Denver Public Library), thank you for all you do!
