Janelle Brown
Dear Librarian,
When I was in second grade, I decided I wanted to be an author when I grew up. Being a procrastinator at heart, it took me another twenty-odd years to finally start writing that novel, and another five to finish it. That's a lot of time to gestate the book that I knew I wanted to write: Something sharp and funny and just a little bit painful, densely plotted and quick-moving and still full of heart -- the kind of book you fall in love with.
The final result is ALL WE EVER WANTED WAS EVERYTHING. Inspired by novelists like Jonathan Franzen, Tom Perotta and Claire Messud, it's a darkly funny suburban novel set in Silicon Valley, about a mother and her two daughters whose lives are falling apart in the wake of their spectacular personal failures: bankruptcy, divorce, promiscuity. They cloister themselves in their home for their summer, waging war against drug-dealing pool boys, born-again Christians, debt collectors, their own demons -- and, of course, each other.
