Abigail Carter
Dear Librarian,
I began writing my memoir, ALCHEMY OF LOSS, as a way of recording, for the future benefit of my two young children, the progression of our lives since my husband's death in the World Trade Center on September 11th. I wanted to write the book that I longed to read, one giving me hope that there was a light at the end of the tunnel of my grief. What resulted was an honest, deeply personal and sometimes humorous account of my attempt to put my life back together. My aim in writing this book was for it to resonate with anyone who had endured loss of any kind, be it through death or divorce. In particular I hoped to appeal to the loss that is experienced by a parent, attempting to navigate their own loss while also charting the waters of a child's grief. My greatest wish would be for readers to discover through my story, the tremendous opportunity for deeper self-awareness and personal growth that loss and grief offers us all.
Toronto's Globe and Mail says: "Eloquent and honest... Reading it is like sitting at your own kitchen table listening to Abigail Carter's story, a story that is unnerving, uplifting and occasionally humorous... remarkable."
I hope your readers will enjoy it just as much.
You will find photos of my family and other writing I have done along with my personal blog at my website: www.abigailcarter.com.
Sincerely,
Abigail Carter
