Margaret Lazarus Dean
Dear Librarian,
In my debut novel, THE TIME IT TAKES TO FALL, it's 1986 and bookish 13-year-old Dolores Gray is obsessed with space travel and astronauts. She lives on the Space Coast near Cape Canaveral, her father works on the space shuttle's Solid Rocket Boosters, and she hopes to fly in space herself one day. But when the space shuttle Challenger explodes, killing all seven astronauts aboard, including Judith Resnik, Dolores struggles to keep together her family, her community, and her dream.
Nancy Pearl calls THE TIME IT TAKES TO FALL "One of the nicest written coming-of-age stories that I've read in a long time." Library Journal highly recommends it as "a gripping judgment of American culture." The Minneapolis Star-Tribune says, "Dean has created an immensely believable heroine and delivers a fascinating and approachable look at that most intimidating of all endeavors: rocket science. If there's any justice at all, her book will be read by women's book clubs across the country."
