Lesley Dormen
Dear Librarian,
Female readers have proven that they're hungry for literary fiction with the tone, speed and emotion of chick lit. THE BEST PLACE TO BE is all that.
How does a complicated modern woman travel from heartbreak to happiness?
I spent six years writing THE BEST PLACE TO BE, inspired by the work of Lorrie Moore, Melissa Banks, Alice Munro.
THE BEST PLACE TO BE follows Grace Hanford, a Midwestern transplant to New York City, from age 15 to fiftysomething.
O, the Oprah magazine, said, "Following Grace through the maze of midlife and youth...is a journey that is smack-your-forehead familiar, and so crazily funny you could cry."
Elle called THE BEST PLACE TO BE "Virginia Woolf meets Candace Bushnell." The New York Times Book Review called the stories "deliciously, crushingly funny."
I will visit any library book group within driving distance of New York. And as a teacher of fiction (Associate Director of the Writers Studio) I am happy to conduct a writing workshop and/or give a talk about turning autobiography into fiction.
Thank you, librarians, for making this writer a reader.
Yours,
Lesley Dormen
