Bonnie J. Glover

Dear Librarian,

GOING DOWN SOUTH tells a story of Olivia Jean, a fifteen- year -old girl who becomes pregnant in the late 1950's and is sent to live with her grandmother, Birdie. But Birdie is wise and refuses to let her daughter, Daisy, drop Olivia Jean off in Cold Water Springs, Alabama, and leave. Daisy, Birdie decides, must stay and help take care of her daughter. Thus begins the story of three generations of women living under one roof and their efforts at becoming a family.

Young and old patrons of the library will enjoy the three main characters of this novel. Olivia Jean is the optimistic teen determined to have her baby; Daisy is the dissatisfied mother and wife, and Birdie is the wild grandmother who is starting to settle down after a stint in the Big House.

Readers will laugh, cry and ultimately thank you for recommending GOING DOWN SOUTH.
