Dear Librarian, The question was: How do I return a little of the pleasure and comfort so many librarians have given me over the years? The answer finally came to me: Write a novel that anyone who has made a living among books will love. I decided to give it a historical setting. And my subject? Arguably the greatest writer of all time—William Shakespeare. Most importantly, I wanted to make Will accessible to everyone. Not just scholars. Although many readers feel intimidated by Elizabethan language, I believed I knew a way to make Will easy to understand, human. After four years of research and writing...I hope you'll say I've done my job well.
