Judith Kelman
Dear Librarian,
Are your readers curious about prisons or paranoid schizophrenia? Ever wondered what it's like to be in jail? One of the joys of being a writer is that I can satisfy such curiosities, call it research, and return to my real life at will.
For my latest novel, THE SESSION, I visited the infamous Rikers Island prison complex near New York City, the world's largest penal colony. I interviewed prison personnel and inmates, including schizophrenic women on the mental observation unit. One of them became the model for Big Millie, one of my all time favorite characters.
THE SESSION would be a fine recommendation for readers who love James Patterson, Jonathan Kellerman, Lisa Scottoline or Patricia Cornwell. Linda Fairstein calls the book: "Skillfully crafted and engaging. THE SESSION is haunting psychological suspense." Harlan Coben has said, "Judith Kelman will hold you Spellbound". The Mystery Writers of America honored me with the 2002 Mary Higgins Clark Award for best suspense novel.
My award-winning website Judith Kelman's Writers' Room (www.jkelman.com) is designed to answer the questions and quandaries of aspiring writers of fiction and non-fiction. I welcome visits and answer all e-mails personally.
Warm regards,
Judith Kelman
