Dear Librarian, Helping a friend heal from abuse motivated me to write this book. When over 50 people came to my first talk at a local library, I realized she wasn't alone. One in three of your women readers is a victim of abuse, making this a vital resource for your library. I'd counseled abused women as a social worker, and now combined my photography and social work training to create a book to empower women, not focus on abuse. WOMEN IN SHADOW AND LIGHT offers an intimate glimpse of forty women, ages nineteen to ninety-five, finding courage to triumph over trauma. A celebration of women offering other women a gift of hope; a sisterhood finding strength and beauty, rediscovering joy; stories of Everywoman we all relate to.
