China Miéville

Dear Librarian,

If I start by telling you how crucial libraries were to me throughout my youth, you'll maybe think I'm just trying to butter you up. But the truth is that UN LUN DUN is intended not only as a homage to those YA novels I spent so many hours sitting on a kick-stool reading, but a homage to the libraries I read them in. That's why in UN LUN DUN every library leads to an entire universe of bookshelves, stretching like ladders into countless different worlds, and why librarians are swashbuckling heroes, 'bookaneers', guides to and explorers of the infinite books on infinite shelves. I've heard it said more than once that libraries give young readers access to other worlds: what better way to agree and pay tribute than by writing a story where that's literally true?

I'm giving away 5 free copies of UN LUN DUN hardcover & poster [Just send an e-mail to BPGmarketing@randomhouse.com with "Un Lun Dun" in the subject line].

Cheers!
