David Morrell

Dear Librarian,

THE SPY WHO CAME FOR CHRISTMAS combines action and suspense with a subject that's normally considered "warm and cozy," resulting in something highly unusual: a Christmas espionage thriller. My previous spy novel was Extreme Denial in 1996. Since then I've explored suspense in many ways, but now I felt ready to bring a new perspective to a type of story that fans of my Brotherhood of the Rose espionage series often ask me to revisit. THE SPY WHO CAME FOR CHRISTMAS features a desperate undercover agent who seeks refuge for himself and a baby who has the power to change the world. It's about redemption, courage, and selflessness, and it includes a spy's perspective on the traditional Nativity story – theorizing that the three Magi were actually spies sent from the country that we now call Iran, and explaining why Joseph is never quoted directly in the gospels.
