David Parnell with Amy Hagberg
Dear Librarian,
I was a drug addict for twenty-three years. On Feb. 21, 2003, while under
the influence of methamphetamine, I grabbed a high-powered assault rifle,
propped it under my chin, and pulled the trigger. The bullet exited between
my eyes, breaking every bone in my face except for my left eye socket.
Miraculously, I survived.
In FACING THE DRAGON, readers will witness the slow metamorphosis of a high
school athlete into a violent, drug dealing, wife beater. By experiencing
the nightmare of my life, and brief descent into hell, they can find hope and healing.
FACING THE DRAGON is a wonderful selection for book groups, including those
at treatment and correctional facilities, because it touches on many issues
(alcoholism, drug addiction, child abuse, and recovery). I'm happy to visit
with groups by phone or video conference.
Write my publicist to receive one of five free advanced review copies of my book at: kimw@hcibooks.com.
All the best,
David Parnell
