Vanitha Sankaran

Dear Librarian,

I am thrilled to announce that my debut fiction work, WATERMARK: A NOVEL OF THE MIDDLE AGES, has just been published from Avon A (HarperCollins)!  The book has already earned advanced praise from a number of prominent writers and reviewers. Booklist says "Sankaran deftly illuminates a time of intellectual darkness in this superbly rendered debut."

WATERMARK is the story of how Auda, the mute daughter of a papermaker in a small French village in the year 1320, finds her voice through the written word. Despite threats from the town's rulers, heretics, and the Inquisition, Auda perseveres to find both love and her place in an often cruel world.

WATERMARK is a great book for book groups and offers a variety of issues that are ripe for discussion, both historically and in today's society. I am happy to join book groups local to the San Francisco Bay area or to participate elsewhere by phone or online conferencing. See my website for the reading group guide for WATERMARK, as well as an excerpt from the novel, a book trailer, and other news.

Thank you,
Vanitha Sankaran
