Dear Librarians,

Gillian Ormsby's mother can't eat and can't get out of bed. The doctors say there's no medical reason for her condition, but she is languishing, waiting to die. Despite their acrimonious relationship, Gillian returns home and confronts, not just her mother, but her own fears and anger. As she works to restore her mother's will to live, she simultaneously restores her mother's neglected garden. In the process of renewing life, both figuratively and actually, she watches as two hummingbirds form their own life-giving relationship, a bonding that echoes the connection forming between Gillian and Adam, the local garden center owner.
