Dana Stabenow
Dear Librarian,
I grew up in an Alaskan fishing village, and my only source of books was the Seldovia Public Library, which was open Monday night for three hours. Every patron was limited to four books at a time, and since I lived on a 75-foot fish tender I then had to get them down the ladder from the dock to the boat, but that's another story.
It was a very small library for a very small community, which meant librarian Susan Bloch English selected her titles with care. I hope she would have considered my second Coast Guard thriller, PREPARED FOR RAGE, worthy of putting on her shelves. She was a wise and tolerant woman who set the gold standard for librarians in my life. I wouldn't have become a writer without her. Read more about her, and my early library experiences, here: www.stabenow.com/2003/05/29/low-tide-and-libraries.
