Kathy Burke
Some readers have likened my autobiography, DETECTIVE, to a female Serpico.
For 23 years, I was a New York City cop. The smallest person ever appointed at the time I joined the force, I rose to the elite rank of detective first grade, worked on some of the city's biggest cases and went on to become the most highly decorated woman detective in the history of the New York Police Department.
But my path was hardly easy. While raising two daughters at home, I became embroiled in controversy over a lawsuit I filed for sexual discrimination, my own direct and confrontational personality, and a Mafia shooting that left me wounded and my male partner dead. On top of all that, I survived a treacherous battle with cancer.
I will be talking about my incredible journey-and much more-in DETECTIVE. Here's what one reader has to say about my memoir:
"Kathy Burke is one of the most courageous people I know. When I was mayor, I presented her with a medal for that courage. Her book, Detective, is an absolute spellbinder." --Former Mayor Ed Koch
I hope you, too, will enjoy DETECTIVE. I'm giving away five signed copies. Just write me at DETECTIVE341@AOL.COM for a chance to win one.
