William Haywood Henderson
Dear Reader,
When I was a young man, I worked on a ranch in the Wind River Valley in Wyoming. There I met an engaging, rough-edged woman who had spent most of her life working "men's jobs" (ranchhand, road crew, outfitter). At times she had even passed herself off as a man. I learned that she had raised a daughter alone in the 1920s and 1930s. Her amazing life inspired my novel, AUGUSTA LOCKE, the story of a resourceful woman and her beautiful daughter, set in the magnificent mountains and deserts of 20th century Wyoming.
I hope you enjoy traveling the West with "Gussie" Locke.
