Judith Kelman
Dear Reader,
Are you curious about prisons or paranoid schizophrenia? Ever wondered what it's like to be in jail? One of the joys of being a writer is that I can satisfy such curiosities (and yours), call it research, and then return to my real life at will.
For my latest novel, THE SESSION, I visited the infamous Rikers Island prison complex near New York City, the world's largest penal colony. I interviewed inmates and prison personnel, including schizophrenic women on the mental observation unit. One of them became the model for Big Millie, one of my all-time favorite characters.
Linda Fairstein calls the result: "Skillfully crafted and engaging. THE SESSION is haunting psychological suspense." Harlan Coben has said, "Judith Kelman will hold you Spellbound". The Mystery Writers of America honored me with the 2002 Mary Higgins Clark Award for best suspense novel.
During January and February, I'll be giving away five copies of THE SESSION each week to readers who e-mail me at jkelman@aol.com. Two grand prize winners can have their names (or any name they choose) included as a character in my next book, STEALING JUSTICE.
If you are or know any aspiring writers, you might want to know about my award-winning website, Judith Kelman's Writers' Room (www.Jkelman.com). The site is designed to offer support and guidance to aspiring fiction and non-fiction writers, and I answer all questions personally.
Happy reading!
Warm regards,
Judith Kelman
