Louis J. Masson

Dear Reader,

As a poet and an essayist, I have been fascinated by the everyday world that I live in. I find it a world often touched by the spiritual if we are observant and if we take care to remember what we have observed and experienced. The book is my response to the play of spiritual light over and in the world around me. I think literature save us-in the sense that memory preserves the past and insight leads to spiritual epiphany and an expansion of our humanity. The book is my effort to save what I can from one man's observations and epiphanies. It is also an invitation to readers to look at the ordinary as an opportunity for discovery and celebration.

We are our memories and our memories grow from what we have seen and saved. We do well to observe and witness with care and reverence.

THE PLAY OF LIGHT offers readers a double journey: to travel along with me into my past which draws you into the singular richness of your own life. I retrace the paths of my memory in search of revelations from the past. Snow under a boy's boots; the old hands of a Russian artist; a daughter's photographs; the wide Willamette Valley-as I turn my eye to such simple images, the light of new meaning begins to glow. The lost moments of everyday life resurface with iconic vitality.

I'd like to invite you to visit my book's web site where you can find a book description, review quotes, my author event schedule, and other information. Just click here to view the site. I'll be giving away signed copies of The Play of Light and $3 Starbucks Coffee cards as well. To win write to mwright@cowley.org.

Happy Reading,
Louis J. Masson
