Susan Carol McCarthy

Dear Reader,

In life, as in books, one thing leads to another…

A while back, when members of DearReader.com read the opening chapters of my first novel, LAY THAT TRUMPET IN OUR HANDS, my fictionalized account of my father's 1951 fight against the Florida KKK, it led to an emotionally-charged reader discussion on racism, my use of dialect, and the role of fiction in exploring difficult truths.

It also deepened my friendship with 75-year-old Evangeline Moore, daughter of state NAACP leader, Harry T. Moore, murdered by the Klan in 1951, and informed her appeal to Florida's Attorney General to re-open the case. Recently, that investigation led to the identification of four suspects in the 55-year-old murder.

Truth informed by fiction may well lead to justice, at last. For updates on the case, and on my second novel, TRUE FIRES, please visit my website, www.SusanCarolMcCarthy.com.

All best,
Susan Carol McCarthy
