Stacey Patton
Dear Reader,
My book is a story about a little black girl who endures abandonment, foster care, adoption, and years of physical and emotional abuse, and escapes inner-city youth shelters and group homes to win an academic scholarship to one of the nation’s most prestigious boarding schools.
In THAT MEAN OLD YESTERDAY, I not only revisit my past and my scars to make meaning of them, I also show how the historical vestiges of slavery and racism continue to haunt African American family life and culture through the way some of us raise our children. This is not only a story of my personal triumph and uplift in the face of adversity. No matter what obstacles life presents, my book will remind you of the power of embracing history, keeping hope, and exercising determination.
