Created by Jenn Risko and John Mutter (former executive editor of bookselling for Publishers Weekly) Shelf Awareness: Daily Enlightenment for the Book Trade is a free e-mail newsletter dedicated to helping the people in stores, in libraries and on the Web buy, sell and lend books most wisely.
It's the brainchild of John Mutter, longtime executive editor of bookselling at Publishers Weekly and of the former PW Daily for Booksellers, and Jenn Risko, who has worked in sales, marketing, and management at Rand McNally, the Insiders' Guides and the National Academies Press. Risko is publisher. Mutter serves as editor-in-chief.
Shelf Awareness covers books that are coming out now or have hooks whether based on media, anniversaries, movie and TV tie ins, etc. looking for that one sleepy backlist title that booksellers have handsold for years and that others in the industry should know about. Likewise, the editors seek out good new books that fly just under the radar. In addition, they offer unusual bestseller lists, reviews of reviews, and more.
