She was a lively, spunky, but sheltered young woman who had to face some terrifying realities as her world closed in around her. The idea that Anastasia was a teenager who must have had hopes, dreams, and the ability to fall in love was one inspiration for this book. But make no mistake: this is not the Disney version of Anastasia. The way I have chosen to stay close as close as I could to historical fact while also giving Anastasia a love interest has already provoked a lot of comment and controversy.
