Home Author Archive For Librarians Authors: Get Included Barry Hoffman Dear Reader: In The Shamra Chronicles my main character, Dara, is given little voice or respect by her own people, but when life is turned upside down, she steps up and accepts a leadership role with courage, vision, and hope.  I think girls need role models like Dara and after teaching for thirty years in the inner-city classrooms of Philadelphia I want to give back to my students and find a way to bring stories of strong women into the classroom despite the cutbacks that made it hard to purchase new books for the classroom.   To date I've donated 11,145 copies of The Shamra Chronicles to thousands of young readers in classrooms, homeless shelters, Native American reservations, libraries, military families, and the Girl Scouts.  I hope Dara's story gives other young girls the strength to find their voices too!
