Dear Librarians,

Thank you for reading IRISH EYES, the launch of my American Songbook series and a love note to my Irish ancestors, who came to America on the coffin ships at the height of the Great Hunger.

For years, I batted around the idea of writing something with an Irish heroine. On a 2009 hiking trip to Ireland, I stopped at the famed Cliffs of Moher, gazed across Galway Bay to the trio of islands known as The Arans and Rose O'Neill's story began taking shape in my mind. Back in Manhattan, runs along the Hudson River looking out to Ellis Island and Lady Liberty helped further flush out her journey.

I am so excited to finally share Rose's story with you, a story that spans many of the tumultuous and exciting flashpoints of the early twentieth century — the Spanish-American War, women's struggle to win the vote, World War I, Prohibition, and the Roaring Twenties. The Historical Novel Society named IRISH EYES a "highly recommended" read: "Tarr writes beautifully, with great pacing, settings, sensitive love scenes, plot twists, just the right amount of period-specific language, and a superb epilogue...The American Songbook series is off to a great start."

To celebrate, I'll be giving away five copies of IRISH EYES, one per winner. To enter, email me at hope@hopetarr.com with "IRISH EYES Reader Giveaway" in the subject line.
