Dear Librarians,

When I started writing LUCY CLARK WILL NOT APOLOGIZE, I was in a low place: my husband had lost his job in Austin, Texas, and we'd moved cross-country to suburban Philadelphia, where we knew nobody — a transition which unearthed the buried grief of losing my parents when I was young.

Then, one day, I fell madly in love — not with a person, but with a real-life secret garden that changed me. I wrote about the mystery and power of this experience for The New York Times, and the story grew into LUCY CLARK.

Kirkus called LUCY CLARK "Enchanting...a beguiling, cozy mystery," and Booklist wrote, "it will speak to your old souls." Madeline Miller, author of Circe, said, "A full-on delight — funny, gripping, warm-hearted, and beautifully written—it made me cheer!"
