Timothy Schaffert
Dear Librarian,
I think of my novel, DEVILS IN THE SUGAR SHOP, as a book for book lovers. Among the cast of characters are Peach and Plum, a pair of literary twenty-something twins who own an independent bookstore. Ashley is a frustrated novelist who conducts erotica-writing workshops in her living room. And though I like to cite modernist novels as the inspiration for DEVILS IN THE SUGAR SHOP—such as Virginia Woolf’s Mrs. Dalloway and D. H. Lawrence’s Women in Love—I also recall the soap operas of the 1970s that I watched with my mother each summer, every day, all day long. We’d crank up the air-conditioner, drink Coke floats, and brutally psychoanalyze the characters.
I'd love to chat with your book clubs, and I hope you’ll enjoy DEVILS IN THE SUGAR SHOP, which Library Journal likened to “an expensive box of chocolates…luscious and approvingly decadent” in its starred review.
Yours truly,
Timothy Schaffert
