Michele Turk

Dear Librarian,

I am a journalist and former American Red Cross employee whose book, BLOOD, SWEAT AND TEARS: An Oral History of the American Red Cross, is a collection of 29 profiles of Red Cross volunteers and staff from fifteen states, plus 70 photographs and illustrations.

BLOOD, SWEAT AND TEARS, released in 2006 to coincide with the charity’s 125th anniversary, is the first narrative history of the charity since the 1950s. The book includes recollections of WWII veterans and “donut dollies” who spent a year boosting soldiers’ morale in Vietnam, and recounts the birth of the nation’s first blood program. Several chapters are devoted to people dispatched on a moment’s notice to disasters nationwide, with heroic and inspirational stories from 9/11 and Hurricanes Katrina/Rita.

I am available for speaking engagements in the Northeast.

Happy Holidays!
