Dear Librarians,

I'm delighted to introduce you to the first in a series of middle-grade mysteries featuring a 12 year-old sleuth named Devlin Quick. I credit both of my careers — as a crime novelist and as a prosecutor — to my childhood devotion to Nancy Drew adventures. This series is my tribute to books that inspired me to read, write, and solve capers like Nancy and her friends did.

Devlin's a city kid — her mother is New York's first woman police commissioner — with a lively spirit, a great sense of justice, and a love of books and libraries. She's hosting an exchange student from Argentina who witnesses the theft of a rare map from the great New York Public Library. Along with another buddy named Booker Dibble, Dev sets out to catch the thief.

I loved writing this caper, and hope you'll help me put INTO THE LION'S DEN in the hands of readers.

Thank you.
