Dear Reader,
You may know me by my Anna Pigeon series but there are things too dark for me to force on my dear park ranger. These have gone into my thriller, 13 1/2. Here's a taste:
Dylan Raines, eleven years old, is convicted of slaughtering his family one winter night mother, father, baby sister and the family cat killed with an axe. The only member of the family to survive the massacre is Dylan's older brother, Richard, and he is grievously wounded.
The deaths bond them more surely than blood; the knowledge that whatever demons caused the axe murders are not gone but only awaiting another opportunity.
At fifteen Pollyanna Marshall runs away from a run-down trailer park in Mississippi, a drunken mother and a string of "step-fathers", to reinvent herself in New Orleans: an education, a clean life, and daughters of her own to love and protect.
In 13 1/2 these worlds collide, reopening the door to the Raines brothers' demons. If Polly is wise enough and strong enough and careful enough, her daughters might just survive them.
