M.M. Buckner

Dear Reader,

Imagine a liquid intelligence growing from trash in the Mississippi River.

After winning the Philip K. Dick Award for futuristic SF, I turned to the present – and eco-fiction.

I learned that, every day, the Mississippi carries 400,000 tons of technological litter from over half the U.S. From this soup, what emerges in my story is the WATERMIND.

The action unfolds at real sites, so I explored Louisiana, talked to locals, climbed levees, listened to zydeco and tasted amazing foods.

Watermind is about mixing things up to make something new – like the language, music and recipes of the Delta – and the techno-trash.

Please write me at mary@mmbuckner.com to win one of five copies of WATERMIND, plus a free call to your book group.

Cordially,
M.M.
