Elizabeth Diamond
Dear Reader,
AN ACCIDENTAL LIGHT, explores how lives can change irrevocably as a result of a single traumatic incident. In the case of this novel, when a young girl runs out from behind a school bus in the blue-dusk of a November evening and is killed. The novel explores the effects of grief, guilt, and trauma on the lives of its two narratorsJack, the off-duty policeman who accidentally kills the girl, and Lisa, the girl's mother.
In the aftermath of the accident, both Lisa and Jack have to revisit ‘unfinished business.' Both see counselors, both have trouble in their marriages, both have to rebuild their lives anew. Both also 'see' Laura after she dies. Are these visions real or merely projections of Jack and Lisa's minds? I'll leave it to you to decide.
