Dear Reader, In writing THE ROAD OUT OF HELL, I had to ask myself: "Could I have endured the two year personal holocaust visited upon Sanford Clark at age thirteen? And if so, could I have then sustained a healthy and honorable life in the aftermath?" The truth is that I still simply don't know. While Sanford did not have the comfort of religious conviction, he had his loyalty to the sister who risked her life to rescue him, and later the support of his fifty-five year marriage.
