Taylor Holden
Dear Reader,
After years as a news correspondent, followed by more than a decade writing mostly biographies of remarkable women and books on the psychological consequences of rape and war, it was time to write a novel.
Paper is what first inspired me--or rather, an artist friend talking about it. "I possess the last supply of the very watercolour paper that JMW Turner used," he told me gravely. "When it is gone, I shall die." He kept his word, and left me with an image so powerful that THE SENSE OF PAPER began with the passionate character of artist Alan Matheson whose world collides fatally with that of a troubled war correspondent.
