Dear Reader,
Three years ago, when I found myself broke, unemployed, and alone in Berlin, I unfairly blamed my problems on my family, for raising me to think of myself as a Korean aristocrat in a world where such things ceased to matter. My family stories, greatly embroidered, became the basis for KEPT: A COMEDY OF SEX AND MANNERS. KEPT explores sex, race, and class among the bright young things of Manhattanin which impoverished aristocratic women become courtesans to pay off their debts. If you loved Vanity Fair and wish for a contemporary retelling, then this book is for you. In fact, Kirkus Reviews called my book "Vanity Fair's close cousin." It was delicious to write and I hope you'll find it a delicious read.
Warmest Regards,
Y. Euny Hong
