Dear Reader, I hope my book NOT STUPID will enable people to see how coping with a child on the Autistic Spectrum affects a whole family and will help to allieviate the often ill-conceived views of those who do not fully understand the obstacles, fears and difficulties those directly affected by the condition each day of their lives. Both my boys are on the autistic spectrum but my husband (also diagnosed with Aspergers syndrome in 2003) and I have been determined that they should be able to share their fair share of opportunities to fulfil their potential as other more able children. NOT STUPID describes the barriers we faced with a long while trying to obtain suitable educational placements for our boys and how, having been turned away by 26 special schools, we founded our own Centre of Excellence that has helped hundreds of children affected by autism.
