Maggie Leffler

Dear Reader,

I'd just returned to the states from England to finish medical school when my mother was diagnosed with cancer. In that moment, the arc of my half-written novel, as well as my life, changed dramatically. The DIAGNOSIS OF LOVE was largely inspired by time that I spent with my mom. Earlier, studying medicine on Grenada, I often imagined what it had been like during the invasion. The story of my husband's great-grandmother--a mother of six who temporarily left her family to pursue her dream of becoming a doctor--provided a way to incorporate the images the island left me with. The rest, including the cast of quirky characters, is entirely the product of my imagination.
