Bret Lott

Dear Reader,

Bret Lott here. I’m the editor of the new anthology of short stories, NOT SAFE BUT GOOD, a gathering of the best in contemporary short fiction. Our title is taken from C.S. Lewis’s description of Aslan in The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, and is meant as a way to describe the sort of stories you’ll find in its pages. These pieces by some of today’s premiere writers—Jerry Jenkins, Thomas Lynch, and Janice Daugharty, to name only a few—are Christian in their worldview, but aren’t the sort of soft stories you’re likely to associate with mainstream Christian fiction. Here you’ll find real people dealing with real issues, men and women at turning points in their lives, when what they believe is put to the test. I know you’ll enjoy them, and find in them the artistry and emotion that makes for great reading.

Thanks,
Bret Lott
