Amulya Malladi

Dear Reader,

When I mention the word ashram, most people think of a beatific place where serenity flows, where a Guru imparts mystical knowledge, and Madonna and Alannis Morisette sit next to you trying to attain nirvana. But ashrams are usually not like that; most are small, insignificant, part orphanage, part women's shelter, part home for the strange and weird, and part old-age home.

My fourth book, SONG OF THE CUCKOO BIRD, is a story about such an ashram in South India. I welcome you to see the spiritual side of India through the eyes of Kokila who first comes to the ashram when she's 11 years old, an orphan, already married…

If you liked House of the Spirits by Isabel Allende and The Vine of Desire by Chitra Divakaruni, you will absolutely love SONG OF THE CUCKOO BIRD!

I am happy to speak with book clubs and send out bookmarks and bookplates for free. I will be running contests from January through March on my website for readers and book clubs, so please visit me at www.amulyamalladi.com to win books and gift certificates.

Happy Reading!
