Cheryl Sawyer

Dear Reader,

Why are we so intrigued by codes? Maybe because we can't resist trying to unravel any secret that lies tantalisingly before us—and maybe because we all use codes in our intimate lives, with the ones we love. The enigmatic glance across a crowded room, the subtle signals that pass from hand to hand . . .

When I chose to write THE CODE OF LOVE about two spies who were both chasing Napoleon's Grand Cypher, I realised there was another, much more complex code that the English hero and the French heroine would need to decipher – the hidden passion building between them. And I love to think that you, the reader, will be clever enough to get one step ahead of them sometimes in the decoding game! Even though Sir Gideon Landor and Mademoiselle Delphine Dalgleish are not easy people to outfox, as each of them discovers.
