Dear Reader,
A few years ago I learned a friend of mine had donated sperm to an ex-girlfriend and become the biological father of her child. What his relationship to the baby would be was unclearhe had no legal connection to his son.
I found the questions this raised fascinating: What if his friendly relationship with the baby's mother went sour? What if, after having given up all right to "fatherhood," he wanted in on the life of his biological son?
PERFECT LIFE grew out of my imagined answers to these questions, which touch on the most fundamental issues of being alive. How significant is our biology? What does it mean to bring a life into the world?
These are questions that are dear to me as a mother, wife, and friend. They are great for discussion.
People Magazine wrote that "stylish story-telling and sharp social commentary... make PERFECT LIFE both topical and eminently readable," and the Associated Press called the book "perfectly timed."
