Dear Reader,

Writing SHEER ABANDON was one of the most intriguing experiences of my life. It was inspired by a newspaper cutting—as many of my novels are, truth being invariably stranger than fiction!—and seemed initially a comparatively simple, if dramatic, idea. But my story of a girl who'd abandoned her baby became more complex as I realised the effect of that abandonment, not only on the mother and her family, but, of course, on the child herself. Certainly I don't remember being quite so involved in, or touched by, my own characters, as the book grew into an intricate study of fear and rejection, jealousy and ambition, the deadly danger of lies, and of course, of the immense and intense power of love. I'd love to know if it created the same involvement in you! If you'd like to enter to be one of five readers to receive a free copy of SHEER ABANDON, please email me at PennyVincenziReaders@randomhouse.com.

Yours truly,
Penny Vincenzi
