Dear Reader,
In 1969, after returning from Vietnam, I wrote a poem titled The Heirs of Cain. It was by no means a great poem, closer to Bob Dylan than T.S. Eliot, but it concerned a subject that intrigued me then and still does today: How do certain individuals perform evil deeds for a supposedly good cause and then walk away untarnished by what they've done?
That question haunted me for decades. So, in 1991, I decided to pursue it further. I completed HEIRS OF CAIN in 1992. However, like a multitude of fellow authors, I had no luck finding a publisher. A couple of years ago, I decided to take HEIRS OF CAIN off the shelf and give it another chance. This time, the publishing gods were on my side. Obviously, much has changed in the world since 1992. Given that we live in a post–Twin Towers world, I had to revise, update, and expand the story in order to make it more current.
Cain is a legendary assassin who comes out of retirement when he learns that the U.S. president and the three top Middle East leaders have been targeted for assassination. Cain will soon discover that Seneca, a former ally, is the hired assassin. But what Cain won't be aware of is a deadly betrayal that could sabotage his missionand cost him his life.
My experience in Vietnam was the starting point for HEIRS OF CAIN. What has happened in recent decades, combined with my own imagination, provided the backbone of the story.
I hope you will visit my Web site, www.tomwallacenovels.com, to read an excerpt and find out more about HEIRS OF CAIN.
Thanks.
